KENYA NAVY HOLDS ANNUAL INTER-UNITS ATHLETICS AND SWIMMING COMPETITION

The Commander Kenya Navy Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a presided over the annual Kenya Navy Inter-Units Athletics and Swimming Competition at Lieutenant Colonel Kimaro Stadium in Mtongwe.

The two-day event saw athletes drawn from various Kenya Navy Formations and Units compete in swimming, field and track events while promoting esprit de corps and sportsmanship among the Sailors. The event was also used to select the Athletics team that will represent Kenya Navy in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Track and Field Athletics Championship.

While addressing the athletes, Maj Gen Ng’ang’a reminded the Sailors of the noble objective of sports within the KDF; which is to foster esprit de corps, self-discipline and promote a healthy lifestyle central to achieving the Chief of the Defence Forces’ clarion call of “One Force, One Mission”. He encouraged the coaches to ensure they blend the old and young athletes so that experience can be shared across to contribute to the overall Kenya Navy sports performance.

Maj Gen Ng’ang’a commended Corporal Kelvin Tauta of Kenya Navy Fleet together with his team who participated in 4X400 M World Indoor Championship in Glasgow, Scotland in March 2024 and broke the African record. He also congratulated Corporal Samuel Chege who has been selected to join the Kenyan team to participate in 200 M at the All African Games in Accra, Ghana in March 2024.

Present during the event were Formation Commanders, Principal Staff Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Service Members and Corporate Partners.
