Kenya Defence Forces troops in Isiolo region benefited from a two day financial sensitization program by speakers from Cooperative bank and Britam held at 78 Tank Battalion.
The troops were enlightened on financial decision making with an aim to overcome poor financial decisions, embracing a saving culture, debt management, investing and planning for retirement.
Addressing the troops, Armoured Brigade Commander, Brigadier Jeremiah Maroko observed that financial knowledge is a necessity for all. Without financial management many make uninformed financial decisions which have costed them dearly and thus the need to equip ourselves with the right information on personal financial planning.
Brigadier Maroko further stated, “Financial challenges are as a result of bad financial decisions. Its paramount that a soldier acquires discipline in finances in order to have a better life.”
Cooperative Bank head of consumers, Mr. Jackson Mwendo urged the soldiers to utilize the monies they receive with prudence and discipline. “There is no little money, if you apply discipline and prioritize the most important things, you will achieve your financial freedom,” he added.
Britam Financial Advisor, Peter Njuguna noted that currently there has been several cases of domestic violence which can be attributed to bad financial decisions which have caused dysfunctional or broken families.
” Prudent money decisions are very key to our social life. If we mess about finances, we mess several issues in our life, its therefore important that one makes informed financial decision,” he added.
The training brought together Senior Officers, Officers and service members from, 78 Tank Battalion, School of Infantry, School of Artillery, School of Armour, Isiolo Regional Hospital and School of Military Engineering.
