KENYA ARMY HOLDS FAREWELL CEREMONY FOR RETIRING ARMY SERGEANT MAJOR, UNVEILS NEW ARMY SERGEANT MAJOR

The Kenya Army on Friday 3rd September 2021, held a colourful farewell ceremony for the Retiring Army Sergeant Major (ASM) Warrant Officer Class One (WOI) Hamud Abdallah Said. The ceremony, graced by the Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Walter Koipaton, was held at the Headquarters Kenya Army’s Ngao Gardens.

WOI Hamud is retiring after serving the Kenya Army and the Kenya Defence Forces for 42 years.

Lt Gen Koipaton thanked the retiring ASM for his over four decade’s devotion and selfless service to the Republic of Kenya.

Other speakers present praised WOI Hamud as hardworking, brave and outstanding.

Having joined the Kenya Defence Forces in the year 1979, WOI Hamud rose through the ranks until he was appointed as the ASM in the year 2019 .

WO1 Hamud thanked those present for their support in his service. He also advised the soldiers to uphold high standard of discipline as it guides them in their daily endeavours.

The ceremony also marked the unveiling of the newly-appointed Kenya Army Sergeant Major WOI Samson Kariuki. While welcoming the new ASM to Headquarters Kenya Army, Lt Gen Koipaton reiterated on the importance of working together with the other KDF Sergeant Majors for the betterment of the Service.

The Army Sergeant Major is the highest ranked non commissioned officer who is charged with the key responsibility of ensuring discipline among the soldiers. He is the link between the Commander Kenya Army and the troops.

Present during the ceremony were the AMISOM Force Commander Designate Lieutenant General Albert Kendagor, the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command Major General Ayub Matiiri, Senior Officers, Officers, Defence Forces Sergeant Major WOI Elijah Koranga , Kenya Air Force Sergeant Major WOI Dennis Talengo, Kenya Navy Sergeant Major WOI Haji Mbwana, Kenya Army soldiers, retired soldiers and the retiring ASM’s family.
