KENYA ARMY GO GREEN AT KABETE CAMPUS

The Kenya Army Corps of Transport led by Lieutenant Colonel Simon Cherugut in conjunction with the University of Nairobi, Greens of Africa Foundation and Equity Bank today planted over 15,000 trees at the University of Nairobi’s Upper Kabete Campus.

The tree planting exercise saw varied species like Olea Africana, Mexican Green Ash, Markmia Lutea, White Bottle Brush, Bombeya, Codia, Red Cedar and Syzgium planted.

Lieutenant Colonel Cherugut said that the KDF has envisioned to achieve environmental safety through tree planting and continues to partner with various stakeholders in ensuring the targets set are achieved under the Environmental Soldier Program.

Founder of Greens of Africa Foundation, Madam Jedidah Wanyeki stated that her foundation will continue supporting the Environmental Soldier Program towards the target of 450 million trees, with additional tree planting exercises planned in other regions.

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Professor Moses Nyangito, stated that University of Nairobi has set up nurseries and distributed tree seedlings to the community for planting as per the government directive.

Equity Bank’s Dagoretti Corner Branch Manager, Micah Bett, said that being part of such a noble venture ensures that Equity Foundation is getting an incher closer to achieving the target of over 35 million trees.

Kenya Defence Forces targets to plant over 450 million trees which is (3%) of the country’s target of 15Billion trees by 2032 under the Environmental Soldier Program.
