KENYA ARMY CORPS OF SIGNALS CHESS TOURNAMENT

On 15 January 2025, the Kenya Army Corps of Signals (KACS) hosted its inaugural chess tournament at the School of Signals (SOS) in Kahawa Garrison.

The event aimed to integrate chess into KACS culture as a tool to enhance cognitive development, decision-making, and strategic thinking among its personnel.

The tournament featured 30 ‘Information Warriors’ competing in a five-round Swiss system pairing format. Participants showcased their competitiveness, creativity, and brilliance, making it a battlefield of ideas where only the most strategic and tactically adept players triumphed.

In addition to fostering intellectual growth, the tournament served as a selection platform to form a team that will represent KACS in the Kahawa Garrison Inter-Formations Tournament, scheduled for 29 January 2025.

During his address, Major Paul Munyalo, speaking on behalf of the Corps Commander, commended the participants’ enthusiasm and reaffirmed the Commander’s vision to embed chess within the Kenya Army. He also emphasized plans to develop a strong KACS team capable of competing with other formations in the future.
