KDF’s DISASTER RESPONSE BATTALION STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM KENYA SCHOOL OF ADVENTURE AND LEADERSHIP (KESAL) IN MT KENYA

Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Advance Course students from the Kenya Defence Force Disaster Response Battalion (DRB) today, graduated with a course in Leadership and Character Development from Kenya School of Adventure and Leadership in Mt Kenya.

The 12-day course provided the participants an opportunity to be sharpened with the relevant skills on areas pertaining to team building, critical thinking, time management, camp craft, environmental awareness, solo day and night experience. The training culminated in a climbing assault at the Mount Kenya up to Lenana Peak, 4985 m above sea level.

Director Kenya School of Adventure and Leadership Deputy Mrs. Martha Ikiara, during the closing ceremony, underscored the importance of such trainings in preparing a soldier holistically in responding to any emerging disaster in the country.

Commander Construction Engineer Brigade Colonel Maurice Owende advised the graduands to practice the knowledge and skills acquired in dealing with military disasters as well as their own personal undertakings.

Madam Ikiara appreciated the KDF for the continued partnership with KESAL and promised to develop future platforms for exchanging programs.

The event was also attended by the Battalion 2nd in command Major Charles Mulei.
