KDF TROOPS GO GREEN WITHIN WATAMU AREA

Kenya Defence Forces Units and Formations at the Coast region in collaboration with Greens of Africa, Equity Bank and Watamu local community planted 100,000 mangrove seedlings along Mida Creek within Watamu area today, 29 May 2024.

Addressing the participants, Brigadier Douglas Mokwena, Commander Mariakani Garrison lauded the continued collective efforts by KDF and other stakeholders to conserve the environment through tree planting.

“These collaborative tree planting efforts are very crucial. I applaud all those involved in this laudable initiative and encourage others to emulate. Together, we can make a difference and mitigate the effects of climate change,” Brigadier Mokwena said.

Ms Jedidah Wanyeki, CEO of Greens of Africa, congratulated all stakeholders who collaborated towards achieving the target that was set for the day.

Kenya Naval Training College personnel also collaborated with Kenya Navy Primary School to plant 234 tree seedlings at the Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe.

The exercise was part of KDF and other stakeholders’ ongoing environmental conservation efforts to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

Present during the tree planting exercise was Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe, Colonel Wilberforce Murimi, Officers, Service Members, Greens of Africa Foundation and Equity Bank representatives.
