The Kenya Defence Forces completed day two (2) of the Strategic Airlift and Logistics Support to the Contingent from Burundi to the Democratic Republic of Congo via Goma International Airport.
The Burundi National Defence Forces troops (BNDF) under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) deployed to Sake, Masisi territory in the ongoing deployment of EACRF troops.
The deployment conforms to the re-posturing of troops within Rutshuru and Masisi territories approved by the Heads of State mini-summit held in Addis Ababa on 17th February 2023 upon the recommendations of the Chiefs of Defence Forces/Chiefs of Defence Staff.
The deployed troops arrived in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from Bujumbura on 5th and 6th March 2023 on board a Spartan and Dash 8 Kenya Air Force aircrafts while the contingent’s additional logistics arrived via road on Sunday, 5th March 2023.
The arrival of the troops in the region seeks to address the immediate threat posed by M23 and other Armed Groups in the region and offer protection to the vulnerable population.
The EACRF appreciates Partner States in supporting the ongoing peace and stability efforts in Eastern DRC and remains positive on the success of the ongoing political processes.
