Kenya Defence Forces team from Engineers Brigade has completed the construction of ablution block at Utafiti Primary School in Kericho County, Kipkelion East sub county in Mau forest.
This was after the only toilet facility in the school sunk and the management of the school sort assistance from the Kenya Defence Forces which was approved by the Chief of Defence Forces Gen R K Kibochi in January 2021.
The school which has a population of 567 pupils and 16 teaching staff is one of the best performing school in the County as in 2019 KCPE it had a mean score of 385 making it the first in the county.
Speaking during the handover of the ablution block Lt. Col. Gabriel Kibuchi who was the project manager said KDF has continued supporting the local community through such projects as a way of giving back to the community.
He encouraged the pupils to take advantage of the developments to foster their education and also thanked the school administration for the initiative and cooperation they accorded the team during the project.
Utafiti Primary School Head teacher Mr. Rosana Herbert narrated how he got to know about KDF engagement in community projects on KDF Facebook page which he followed and later bow fruits of a wonderful toilet block which has 10 units and a urinal constructed by KDF team that will assist the young learners in their education.
Mr. Rosana together with his staff appreciated KDF for giving a shoulder to lean on as the KDF team went ahead to install a 5000 litres water tank and renovated the floor of two classrooms on top of the ablution block.
Present during the event were the director Tea Research Institute Dr. Samson Kamunya, sub county director of education Mrs. Flora Marwanga, County Quality Assurance Officer Mrs. Ann Kang’ethe and School board of management members among others.
