KDF BOXERS PARTICIPATES IN SELECTION FOR OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

The Kenya Defence Forces boxers participants registered a stellar performance on the final day of a three day National Boxing selection trials for Olympic qualifiers held at Charter Hall, Nairobi County.

The boxers contingent renewed rivalry with their bitter nemesis, the National Police Service, cruising into finals in the Fly weight, feather weight, heavyweight and super heavyweight categories. The competition also attracted contestants from different Counties.

Super heavyweight 92+Kg category saw skillful Lance Bombardier Fred Ramogi make studious ring ran while bombarding Douglas Sagali from Trans-Nzoia County with deadly jabs to win the match on a unanimous points verdict.

92 Kg heavyweight competition was an all KDF affair with Senior Private Peter Abuti narrowly overpowering Hezron Maganga from the Ministry of Defence 3, 2 in the final verdict. In other matches, David Karanja from the National Police Service defeated Corporal Kevin Maina from the KDF in the Fly weight category.

In the women competition, Senior Private Frizer Anyango from the KDF heavy punches easily subdued Teresia Wanjiru from the Prisons winning the game on unanimous decision from the judges.

A total of nine boxers from the Kenya Defence Forces were selected to represent the Nation in the Olympic qualifiers later this year namely, Spte Abednego Kyallo, Cpl Kevin Maina, Spte Pauline Chege, Cpl Samwel Njau, Spte Frizer Anyango, Spte Peter Abuti, Cpl Okongo Edwin, Lbdr Fed Ramogi and Hezron Maganga.
