JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE OFFICERS VISIT KENYA NAVY

The Commandant Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC), Major General Eric Kinuthia, led Senior Joint Command and Staff Course Student Officers for an educational tour at Kenya Navy Base, Mtongwe and Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL), Mombasa.

The visit was aimed at familiarising the student officers with organization, staff functions, and capabilities of Kenya Navy and KSL.

During the visit, the college’s staff paid a courtesy call to Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Jimson Mutai, at his office where discussions centred on operational capabilities and training methodologies of the Sailors were held.

The officers were apprised on the role of Kenya Navy in addressing contemporary maritime security threats. They visited the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS) at Kenya Naval Training College, which offers maritime training in compliance with international maritime standards.

They also toured KSL where they were briefed on the mission of the Shipyard and its role in harnessing the Blue Economy as well as boosting maritime security and safety through shipbuilding, repair and refit of Kenya Navy vessels and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

In addition, they witnessed the midlife refit of Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) Nyayo and Upindi II routine boat.

At the Kenya Navy Fleet, the officers experienced a sea ride onboard Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) Ship Doria. The visit culminated at the Kenya Navy Clearance Diving Unit, where divers showcased their special diving skills that enable them to conduct clearance diving operations that are critical to Kenya’s safety and security.
