INDUCTING NEWLY RECRUITED NURSES

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the Department of Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D) today commenced a two-day induction for the newly recruited specialized Nurses deployed at Defence hospitals. The induction, held in Naivasha, also targets Supply Chain Management Officers who were recently posted to the Ministry.

The two-day workshop, spearheaded by the Director of Human Resource, Management and Development Dr. Lilian Nzavi, aims to inform and educate the staff on the guiding principles and foundations that guide and govern staff at the Ministry of Defence.

The induction also focuses on laying a proper foundation for the new staff as they embark on their work that will contribute to the provision of support to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as they serve the Nation.

Speaking at the opening of the induction, Dr. Nzavi, congratulated the staff for securing the opportunity to serve at the Ministry and warmly welcomed them to the Defence family. She further urged the staff to familiarize themselves with the procedures and the rules that apply within their areas of work to actualize the Ministry’s mandate as is expected of them.

Dr. Nzavi went ahead to highlight the uniqueness of the Ministry and urged the staff to exercise patience, flexibility and commitment while on their day-to-day duties. The Director emphasized the importance of synergy between the KDF and the civilian staff in order to achieve the Ministry’s core mandate of defending and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya.

Key topical areas for the induction include MoD structure and functions, KDF services and units, the Ministry’s mandate, vision, mission, code of conduct, core values and ethics for MoD staff.

Other areas of focus are medical ethics, Civilian-Military relations, organization and functions of government, and Human Resource Policies and procedures, among others.
