GREEN FIRE SOLIDARITY

A section of serving and retired General and Senior Officers whose mother Unit is 1 Kenya Rifles (1 KR) visited General (Rtd) Mohamud Haji Mohamed at his Nairobi office, the first of its kind since his retirement in 1996.

Led by the former Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General (Rtd) Stephen Njoroge, the Officers conveyed a message of appreciation to their fifth Commanding Officer who took over the Unit leadership in 1969.

The visit was in furtherance of the Unit’s teamwork tradition as well as an expression of their esprit de corps stemming from their motto, ‘Green Fire.’ It was also an opportunity to recognize the veteran General’s service which was characterized by courage, loyalty, and exemplary leadership.

Lt Gen (Rtd) Njoroge thanked him for his unwavering dedication during his tenure as 1KR’s Commanding Officer as well as in his strategic leadership as the Chief of the General Staff.

“Your valour, leadership and unwavering dedication to our nation’s cause are exemplary and meritorious. You have not just been a leader but a mentor and inspiration to all of us,” noted Lt Gen (rtd) Njoroge.

In his wise counsel, General Mohamud appreciated the transformation that his former Unit had undergone and urged the serving Officers to perform their duties with utmost commitment and dedication.

“To the men and women who serve our country, whose service and sacrifice is unequaled, learn to be your brother’s keeper. We live in a complex security environment hence the need to be watchful and keen on your surroundings. Do not let your guard down, and above all, prioritize and focus on how to build the KDF,” he guided.

Gen (Rtd) Mohamud began his military career in 1953 as a Private soldier; the Army’s lowest rank, and rose through the ranks to head the military as the Chief of General Staff in 1982, an achievement of its kind that no other Officer has attained in the history of Kenya’s military.
