GOC EASTCOMM HOLDS QUARTERLY SECURITY MEETING WITH LAMU LEADERS

General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General Juma Mwinyikai alongside OAB Commander Col. Joel Tanui today 21 March 2023 held a quarterly security meeting with elected County leaders at the office of the County Commissioner in Lamu County.

Present during the meeting were Lamu County Governor Hon. Issa Timamy, Deputy Governor Raphael Munya, and Lamu East Member of Parliament Capt Ruweida Obo among other county leaders.

The meeting was coordinated by Mr. Gabriel Kioni, the Deputy County Commissioner Lamu, on behalf of Mr. Louis Rono, the newly appointed County Commissioner.

During the deliberations, the General pointed out that a comprehensive approach which integrates government and security agencies in bringing normalcy to the areas under Operation Amani Boni is feasible with the support of elected leaders. Additionally, he called out for the synergy across the leadership aimed at uniting and integrating the communities in Lamu. He also called upon the leaders to engage strategically so as to empower the residents on how to benefit from the available national and county, social economic opportunities in the region

“The government has already invested in mega projects in the region that has seen notable socio-economic development, it’s now upon us to utilize this opportunity and create more opportunities that will see the economy of Lamu soar even high.” said the General.

He assured the leaders that KDF will continue to accord them the support to improve the state if security and livelihoods.

On his side, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy thanked KDF for their support over the years and assured the members that the county leadership command is tirelessly working to improve the livelihood of its people by creating a positive environment for locals and investors.

Major General Mwinyikai also visited the Port of Lamu where he met with security commanders of the facility and was briefed on the state of the security situation since it was operationalized, he later took a tour of the port where operations were going on for MV Boston Trader, the 19th Vessel to dock in Lamu port since the facility was operationalized.
