The East African Community Regional Force Commander Major General Jeff Nyagah on Wednesday, 29th March 2023 visited Kenyan troops deployed in Kibati Temporary Operating Base and Kibumba Forward Operating Base.
During the command visit, the Force Commander underscored the EACRF mandate and apprised the troops on the ongoing peace efforts and operational progress notwithstanding the complexity of the operating environment in Eastern DRC. He reiterated the need for the troops to remain committed and resilient towards executing their duties as envisaged in the mandate, abide and respect the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) constitution and her sovereignty.
He implored them to always remain objective and focused in all assigned tasks among them; the Protection of Civilians, opening up of the Main Supply Route along Bunagana-Rutshuru- Rumangabo-Kibumba to strategic town of Goma(RN2) in order to facilitate free movement of people and goods, and humanitarian assistance within Eastern DRC.
“The theatre of operations remains complex and fluid and I commend you for your resiliency and utmost degree of mission readiness and professionalism guided by the cardinal principles of respect for the International Humanitarian Law, all geared towards enhancing peace and stability in Eastern DRC”.
Further, the Force Commander reiterated that EACRF has a clear mandate and mission to fulfill and all troops working jointly and in coordination with the Armed Forces of DRC (FARDC), the EAC Regional Forces and MONUSCO must endeavor to protect civilians in the Joint Operation Area within the established Multinational Sector in North Kivu.
During the Command visit, he was received by the Kenyan Contingent Commander, Colonel Daniel Rotich and the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Denis Obiero at Kibati and Kibumba respectively.
