EMBAKASI GARRISON GOES GREEN

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel at Embakasi Garrison through Environmental Soldier Program and in partnership with Gro Initiative and Community based organizations in the area planted over 3000 trees as a way of conserving the environment during this rainy season.

This initiative by the Service personnel drawn from Embakasi Garrison HQ, 75 Artillery Battalion and Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) is geared towards the support of government’s efforts to plant 15 billion trees by 2030. The Ministry of Defence Civilian Staff were also part of the exercise; led by Civilian Administration Officer Miss. Mumbua Kyalo and Miss Christine Ndemba.

The Embakasi Garrison Camp Commandant, Colonel Joseph Yator,  Colonel Jackson Lesaiyo, Commanding Officer 75 Artillery Batallion   Major Isaac Marangach  and Gro Intiative Country Manager  Mr. Mukiri Muchene spearheaded the activity. During launching of the initiative, Col Yator mentioned the importance of the trees which include conserving and purifying the air, medicinal use, attracting the rain and protection of forest resources which supports livelihood among other functions. He also pointed out that Embakasi Garrison will endeavour to plant more trees in the near future.
