DFCS HOLDS NATIONAL MILITARY YOUTH CONFERENCE IN MOMBASA

Defence Forces Chaplaincy Service(DFCS) officially inaugurated a five-day Anglican Church (AC) Military Episcopate National Military Youth Conference at Moi Forces Academy, Mombasa on Tuesday 28 November 2023.

Over 420 youths from Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) families attended this year’s conference, which is themed “trust and perseverance, finding strength in God’s word.” Families worked with facilitators to address a variety of youths issues such as vocation and career guidance, reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases, substance dependence, social media etiquette, spirituality wellness, mental health, self-awareness, stigmatization, first aid, nutrition and diet, child abuse, and teenage pregnancies.

The program aims to provide the youths with information and skills to assist them through the adolescence stage as well as to avoid involvement in indiscipline and delinquent activities especially during these long holidays.

The chief guest, Rt. Rev Dr. Alphonce Baya, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Mombasa, commended the KDF for its ongoing support of the AC. He exhorted the youths to trust in the Lord.

“The biblical teaching of sexuality can bring about a sense of anxiety. Poverty and unemployment are all sources of concern in society. God’s message asks us to cast our worries on Him because he cares.”

He encouraged them to remain vigilant and sober in the face of societal pressure since the devil prowls around like a lion looking for someone to devour.

“There are many things in the world that are tempting. You therefore need strong faith and strength from God,” the bishop went on to say.

Colonel Reverend Alfayo Lelei, Principal Chaplain of the Anglican Church, commended the youths who came to the conference from several military camps across the country for their dedication to faith and togetherness.

The youths will participate in a variety of activities during the conference including team building, plenary group discussions and games.

Present during the opening service were the Military clergy, Officers, Service Members and Families.
