DEFENCE PS PARTICIPATES IN MOD’S TEAM BUILDING EXERCISE

Defence Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Mariru has today joined Accounts Department at the Ministry for a team-building exercise organized by the Unit to mark the closure and opening of Financial Year 2022/23 and 2023/24 respectively.

The rare exercise held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex – Lang’ata was aimed at bringing together employees of the Department to engage in sporting activities for their physical fitness and strengthening the bond of friendship amongst themselves.

In his remarks, the PS hailed the Accounting Unit for their industry and dedication to duty which he said had made the Unit obtain clean books of accounts for the last six years in a row and urged them not to lower the bar.

The PS reiterated that the interest of the civilian component in the Ministry is the soldier whom he referred to as the ‘North Star’ saying their commitment to the fight against Al Shabaab, Peace Keeping Operations in DR Congo and the fight against banditry in the North Rift was commendable.

“We are privileged to support the Defence ecosystem of our country. In everything that we as civilians do, we are supporting the primary mandate of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in defending and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our Republic, said the PS.

Mr. Mariru thanked the Accounts Department and other HoDs for increasingly growing synergy and working together by aligning their goals to the corporate vision of the Ministry and the national strategic goals.
“I commend every member of staff for the team spirit and diligence in their work. This has made the Ministry to be ranked position one in the country as a result of the collective role,” he said, adding that he is gratified to note that some of the staff had served in the Civil Service diligently and faithfully for the past 38 years.

During the exercise, the staff participated in various sporting activities among them aerobics, stepping stone, pendulum challenge, football, basketball and tug of war.
The Senior Deputy Accountant General Ms. Electina Wanyonyi who was the convener of the exercise thanked the various Heads and members of her staff for team spirit saying it has been wonderful to work together harmoniously to achieve the collective responsibility.

Also present was the Secretary of Administration Mr. Boniface Wambua and various HoDs at MoD.
