DEFENCE CS HOSTS INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO KENYA

Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has today hosted the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Her Excellency Ms. Namgya Khampa who paid him an office visit at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.

The CS noted that Kenya and India have a firm history of cooperation dating way before Kenya’s independence that has made it possible for the two countries to collaborate in a wide range of issues among them defence and trade.

The two countries have a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation in the field of military medical services, training and exercises, military culture, sports and adventure as well as the supply of military materials and equipment.

Further, Kenya and India have an active MoU on sharing of White Shipping Information aimed at improving maritime security through sharing of unclassified information through dedicated Automatic Information Systems (AIS) receivers for monitoring commercial ships & passenger liners.

The two leaders also discussed areas of possible future partnerships and cooperation among them defence industry, telecommunication industry, border security, defence research and development.

Hon. Duale appreciated the cordial relations between the two friendly countries saying it has promoted defence cooperation for the support of modernization programmes.

Present during the meeting were the Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi and the Director of Medical Services (DMS) Major General (Dr.) George Ng’ang’a.
