DANISH DEFENCE DELEGATION VISITS KENYA NAVY

On 12 November 2024, a delegation from the Danish Defence Command, led by Commander Senior Grade Peter Hansen, visited the Kenya Navy. The purpose of the visit was to review progress under the Peace and Stabilization Program on Maritime Cooperation (2023-2026) and to explore future collaborative opportunities between Kenya and Denmark.

The delegation paid a courtesy call to Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, where discussions focused on enhancing Kenya’s maritime defense capabilities and fostering strategic partnerships in maritime security and training.

Accompanied by Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe, Brigadier Abraham Biwott, the delegation toured various Danish-supported projects. The visit highlighted the shared expertise and resources aimed at addressing common maritime challenges and enhancing training capacities.

At the Kenya Navy Training College (KNTC), the delegation officially handed over an extension to the fire-fighting facility at the Damage Control Unit. They were also briefed on the ongoing construction of fire classrooms to enhance the Navy’s preparedness in fire-related emergencies. The delegation was given a tour of the Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS), a facility that provides International Maritime Organization (IMO) Model Courses for Kenya Navy officers and sailors.

Additionally, the delegation visited the Kenya Navy Fleet, where they observed the Modern Test Cells used for testing marine propulsion engines of Kenya Navy ships and training Kenya Navy Marine Technicians.

The visit reaffirmed the mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation between Kenya and Denmark, bolstering Kenya Navy’s operational capabilities, and supporting regional security and sustainable development through a strategic partnership.

Present at the event were Commander Kenya Navy Fleet Brigadier Mohamed Shemote, Commandant of the Kenya Naval Training College Colonel Benson Karuimbo, Kenya Navy Chief of Operations Colonel Philip Mulumba, Danish Defence Attaché Colonel Jens Lindvig, Danish Liaison Officer to Kenya, Commander Senior Grade Kjeld Gaard Frederiksen, and Kenya Navy Officers.
