CS DUALE MEETS CHIEF JUSTICE KOOME

Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has today met Lady Justice Martha Koome, the Chief Justice and the President of the Supreme Court of Kenya at her office in Nairobi.

The CS hailed the Hon. CJ for her continued support in appointing Judge Advocates for Court Martial that has made it possible to prosecute soldiers found to have violated the rules and regulations of the Kenya Defence Forces and laws of Kenya.

The CS further implored the President of the Supreme Court to enable expeditious hearing of cases to enable prompt delivery of justice and enable the officers who sit in the bench attend other duties.

“Some magistrates have busy diaries owing to the backlog in civil courts but we seek to have the cases for our court martial incorporated in the judicial calendar so they may be heard and determined on time,” said the CS.
Hon. Duale further emphasized on the need for joint training of the legal officers from the KDF to enhance capacity building and enhance exchange program.

The CJ appreciated the critical role the KDF has continued to play in defence and protection of the Kenyan borders saying it has made it possible to live and do business in a secure environment.

“The military is a trusted partner as a key component of the national security and we are grateful for the seriousness with which you have responded to emergencies and disasters. We are happy for the continued partnership as government agencies since we work for the same populace since no single sector can work in isolation,” said the Hon. Chief Justice.
She hailed the military for their precision in undertaking their duties saying they are importing the same dedication and commitment to undertake various projects aimed at bringing justice closer to Kenyans.

Lady Justice Koome affirmed that the judiciary shall continue to work closer with the military to expeditiously discharge justice for soldiers arraigned in court martials.

The CS was flanked by the Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Francis Ogolla and the Chief of Legal Services, Brigadier Yvonne Kerubo.
