On the 29th October morning , Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon. Soipan Tuya toured the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum (UGNM&M) to familiarize herself with the landmark facility.
She was accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, Director General of Defence National Security Industries (DNSI) Major General Bernard Waliaula, Chief of Infrastructure at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Titus Sokobe, and other senior military officials. They were welcomed by UGNM&M Director Brigadier Opiyo Oduor.
During the visit, Hon. Tuya received a briefing on the facility’s role and mandate, which centers on collecting, preserving, researching, and showcasing Kenya’s history and culture for future generations. The delegation was guided through various completed galleries, including:

• Military Heritage Gallery
• Birth of Kenya Gallery
• Galleries of Kenya’s previous Heads of State
• Hall of Witness
• Independence Gallery
• Struggle for Independence Gallery
• Turi Railway Station
• Tomb of the Unknown Warrior
• Plaza of the People Gallery
The Museum, managed by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence, is a flagship project dedicated to preserving and showcasing Kenya’s history and culture. As a premier national repository, it aims to educate future generations about Kenya’s heritage and aspirations. The facility will soon be open to the public.
Preserving national heritage and history is crucial as it highlights the significant milestones Kenya has achieved as a nation. Protecting culture, art, and traditions fosters cohesion, embraces diversity, and serves as an educational resource for future generations.
