The Cabinet Secretary for Defence Hon. Aden Duale has today hosted officials from Kenya Coast Guard Services and the Department of Shipping and Maritime who paid him an office visit at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
The officials briefed the CS on the various steps the Agencies have undertaken to enhance maritime security and their concerted efforts to combat piracy along the Kenyan Coastline.
The representatives further updated the CS on the ongoing partnerships with the shipping industry to promote and improve best management practices that merchant ships and crew can take to avoid, deter and counter pirate activities.
Kenya Chairs the Contact Group on Illicit Maritime Activities (CGIMA), a regional body that aims at suppressing piracy and illicit maritime activities in the region.
Present during the meeting was Ms. Joyce Gakio from Kenya Coast Guard and Mr. Abdallah Hatimy from Shipping and Maritime Department.
