CONSERVING WATER CATCHMENT AREAS

Kenya Army troops from the Ninth Battalion, Kenya Rifles on 01 July 2023 joined the President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces H.E Hon William Ruto and other environment conservation stakeholders in a tree planting exercise during the 7th edition of the Annual Kaptagat Tree Planting in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Speaking during the tree planting drive, President William Ruto urged the stakeholders to upscale environment reclamation, rehabilitation and conservation on degraded ecosystems.

“I appeal to every Kenyan to plant at least 30 trees each year. Over the next 10 years, we will grow at least 15 billion trees and restore 10.6 million hectares of degraded forests and rangelands,” said the President.

The environment conservations efforts are in line with the President’s 15 billion tree restoration plan by 2032. The tree planting drive so over 30,000 indigenous tree seedlings of different species being planted.

The Kaptagat Tree Planting programme is an annual event that is geared towards rehabilitation of the Kaptagat Forest Ecosystem.
