COMMONWEALTH NATIONS CELEBRATE WAR HEROES AND HEROINES.

On Sunday 13 November 2022, Chief of Personnel Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Elijah Gatere, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, led KDF in joining Commonwealth of Nations Member States in a commemoration service in honour of departed soldiers during World War 1 at Nairobi Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.

The event graced by Canadian High Commissioner, H.E. Christopher Thornley saw the arrival of various retired war veterans as well as families of the deceased soldiers.

The commemoration service is celebrated annually amongst member states of the Commonwealth of Nations and serves to pay special tribute to gallant war heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate price during the World Wars.

Speaking during the occasion, H.E Christopher Thornely, remembered with nostalgia Men and Women who fought with courage and honour noting that their sacrifices fortified whole member states from the effects of oppressors.

The ceremony saw Commonwealth States representatives, current and retired members of the Defence Forces, and World War Veterans lay wreaths at the memorial sites and observe two minutes of silence in memory of those who perished in the line of duty.

Various State representatives, Defence attaches, Military Officers, and World War veterans and their families were in attendance.
