COMMANDER SECTOR VI VISITS OLD AIRPORT TROOPS

Commander Sector VI, Brigadier Luka Kutto, early this week visited the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops deployed at Old Airport FOB in Kismayo to assess the security situation and to encourage the troops in ensuring ATMIS mandate is achieved.

During his visit, the Sector VI Commander was welcomed by Officer Commanding (OC) Major Morris Afande, who later briefed him on the security situation at the old Airport.

While addressing the soldiers, he emphasized the importance of diligence in achieving the ATMIS mandate, situational awareness in light of the dynamic Al-Shabaab militant threat, and collaboration with the Somalia Security Forces.

“We are here to ensure Somalia finds a long-lasting security independence and economic stability in our operational areas. Let us remain steadfast and mission-oriented in the achievement of ATMIS objectives,” said Brig Kutto.

Additionally, he highlighted the troops’ welfare arrangements in place and urged the soldiers to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism in their duties.

In light of the projected drawdown in line with the Somalia Transition Plan, he implored the troops not to let their guard down, including up to the final minute, to ensure that the stabilization gains are sustained
