His Excellency Honorable Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, in an auspicious occasion held at State House, Nairobi; presided over the investiture of ranks and swearing in ceremony of newly promoted and appointed General officers of the Kenya Defence Forces.
The event comes a day after the President effected the postings, promotions and appointments of the General officers pursuant to section 9 (2) (a) of the Kenya Defence Forces Act.
President William Ruto installable ranks to the newly appointed Vice Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Charles Kahariri, the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Tarus , the Commander Kenya Navy Major General Thomas Ng’ang’a, the Vice Chancellor National Defence University Kenya Lt Gen Jimson Mutai, the Commandant National Defence College, Lieutenant General Juma Mwinyikai and General Officer Commanding Eastern Command Major General Luka Kutto.
Thereafter, the Commander in Chief oversaw the swearing in of the incoming VCDF and Service Commanders respectively.
In his address, the President congratulated the newly promoted and appointed General officers as they assume their new responsibilities noting that the promotions and appointments are a result of merit, professionalism and the commitment they have put in.
“The strength of a nation comes from the strengths of institutions that make up the nation. Our Kenya Defence Forces is a very important institution in the Republic of Kenya since it is amongst the critical institutions that provides stability to the nation. Without security and stability, it is much difficult to achieve national aspirations of economic development, social development and political progress.,” said the President.
He further noted that he is proud of the KDF and the entire security fraternity for their patriotism, professionalism and dedication to the people and Republic of Kenya, imploring the new leadership to discharge its responsibilities with dedication, patriotism and professionalism; keeping the traditions that defines KDF as a professional force with integrity, towards building a cohesive, united progressive, secure and stable Kenya.
The President also recognized the presence of the outgoing VCDF, Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi and the outgoing, Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru. He congratulated them on their appointments to Kenya’s Ambassador in Iran and Kenya’s High Commissioner in Pakistan respectively.
