COMMANDANT JOINT COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE ATTENDS AFRICAN CONFERENCE OF COMMANDANTS

The Commandant Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC-KAREN) Maj Gen E M Kinuthia attended the 17th African Conference of Commandants (ACoC) held in Kampala, Uganda between 31 Oct to 04 Nov 2023.

ACoC is an Organization that brings together African Staff Colleges with a Vision of enhancing military professionalism in Africa through Education, Training and Development of Officers in African Staff Colleges. ACoC has a Chairman who is the Commandant of the host Command and Staff College with one year tenure.

This year’s Conference chaired and hosted by Uganda was opened by the Ugandan Deputy Minister for Defense and Veterans affairs, Mr Jacob Oboth. Commandants from 17 Command and Staff Colleges of African nations attended the 5 day conference. The theme of the 17th Conference was *“ Aligning Peace Support Operations (PSO) Training in Africa to the Contemporary Security Scenarios”.*

The Annual Conference provides policy direction and is the decision making organ of the organisation. The 17th ACoC conference featured esteemed guest speakers that included, the CDS of Ghana Armed Forces Vice Admiral Amoama, Lt Gen J Mugira MD National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) Uganda, prominent academic scholars Prof P L O Lumumba and Prof Isaac Olawale Albert who spoke on topics aligned to the conference theme.

The UPDF Chief of Defence Forces General Wilson Mbadi, closed the Conference. He also presided over the handover between the outgoing Chairman Maj Gen George Igumba, the Commandant of Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka and the incoming Chairman Air Commodore Nouri Maghidr, the Commandant of the Libya Command and Staff College.
