On Friday, 14 June 24, Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, visited the Kenya Air Force (KAF) at Laikipia Air Base, inline with the CDF familiarization tour to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Services. The visit provided a comprehensive overview of the Kenya Air Force and offered the CDF an opportunity to interact with officers, airmen and women of KAF
Upon his arrival, General Kahariri was welcomed by KAF Commander, Major General Fatuma Ahmed. The days events included laying a wreath at the Base Monument in honor of the fallen soldiers; inspecting a Half Guard of Honour, a comprehensive brief to gain a detailed understanding of the mandare, operational status and effectiveness of the Kenya Air Force, a tour of select facilities at the Base, a luncheon in his honour and an address to all KAF personnel.
During the adress, Maj Gen Ahmed emphasized KAF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Kenyan airspace.
“As KAF, we will continue to maintain a high level of vigilance and professionalism in safeguarding our airspace against external aggression,” said Maj Gen Ahmed.
In his address, Gen Kahariri praised their dedication and emphasized the importance of adhering to KDF’s core values in their operations. He also called on the Air Force to continue supporting the Kenya Army and Kenya Navy, expressing his outlook to have one force forging ahead for mission success.
The CDF also urged all to uphold KDF’s core values underscoring that the military is special because we are apolitical, professional, known for ntegrity, operating under civil prerogative, and loyal through the chain of command,.
General Kahariri also toured several key departments and facilities, including the Liquid Oxygen Plant and the Aviation Center of Excellence (ACE). These visits aimed to evaluate and understand how these facilities continue to achieve operational effectiveness.
