ATMIS II KDF TROOPS HOLD A FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT AT KISMAYO

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS II) from Mechanized Infantry Battalion (MIB) led by Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Eric Lovega, participated in a friendly football tournament against DANAAB Special Forces at Kismayo.

The tournament aimed at fostering teamwork, physical fitness and camaraderie among the SSF and the KDF soldiers in the mission area. It also served as a team building cohesion amongst the troops and set conditions for synergy in conducting of joint operations and training.

DANAAB Special Forces, showed great prowess in sportsmanship where they emerged winners in a score of 1- 0 against the Kenya Defence Forces.

Making his remarks after the tournament’s Lt Col Lovega thanked both teams for the cordial relations and cohesion exhibited during the match and urged all to sustain the same spirit in furtherance of the ATMIS mandate indicating that such platforms are instrumental in building comradeship that is vital in the fight against Al Shabaab.

The Commanding Officer emphasized that sports are an excellent way to gain confidence, improve discipline, practice effective time management, preserve good health and establish a good working relationship between the SSF and KDF troops in achieving the ATMIS mandate.
