Kenya Defence Forces troops deployed in Burahache Forward Operating Base (FOB) under Close Operations yesterday conducted an impromptu medical outreach at El Banda Centre, Burahache.
The troops were on routine patrol when locals drew their attention to sick lady within the area who was extremely weak from symptoms of severe dehydration, diarrhoea and vomiting. The patrol medic sprung to action without hesitation and attended to the lady who on initial assessment needed urgent medical attention.
While still attending to the patient while the rest of the patrol stood on guard, more patients streamed in, prompting the medic, Corporal Peter Omondi, to attend to them. During the process, more than 10 cases popped up which ranged from tonsillitis, malaria, and allergies among other ailments which were assessed and treated. Corporal Omondi went ahead to address the locals on health and hygiene matters and assured them of KDF medical assistance.
“We shall do follow up on all the cases we have attended to within the course of the week to determine their state and response to medication,” he assured the locals.
