23 MECHANIZED INFANTRY BATTALION CONDUCTS CIMIC IN GARISSA

On 3rd April 23, the Kenya Defence Forces conducted Humanitarian Civil Assistance (HCA) in Elkambere area, Bulagalol in Garissa County.

The team led by the 23 Mechanized Infantry Battalion (MIB) Officer Commanding, Major C Waweru and E Company troops from Bulagalol Forward Operating Base (FOB), distributed food and water to the community currently facing water scarcity due prolonged drought in the region. The distribution will enable locals to participate fully during Iftar and Suhoor in the ongoing Holy Month of Ramadan.

The one-day Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) saw KDF medical team extend medical assistance to the community. The KDF team further engaged local key leaders on the security situation in the area. The area Chief was glad to report a reduction of threats and attacks by Al Shabaab. Locals were also encouraged to continue working with KDF and other security teams operating in the area.

Speaking during the exercise, Major Waweru promised the residents that KDF will continue providing security and protecting them at all costs. “Civilian protection remains our focus and we therefore guarantee your safety” he said.

The Humanitarian Civil Assistance (HCA) forms part of KDF’s secondary mission of assisting and cooperating with other authorities in situations of emergency or disaster.
