Defence Secretary Pays a Visit to Kenya Air Force Headquarter

The Defence Cabinet Secretary Ambassador (Dr) Monica Juma on Friday 13, March 2020 paid a visit to the Kenya Air Force Headquarters at Moi Air Base.

The CS Defence who was accompanied by Defence Principal Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim M Mohamed were received by the Commander Kenya Air Force, Major General Francis Ogolla. Thereafter, the CS proceeded to lay a wreath at the Moi Air Base mausoleum as a way of honouring the fallen heroes and heroines.

The aim of the visit was to evaluate the state of Kenya Air Force and forge a way forward.

While addressing those present, Amb. (Dr) Monica Juma said she was delighted to be back to the Ministry of Defence as Defence CS. She also applauded KAF for being an elite service that is ready and efficient in dispensing its mandate of safeguarding the Kenyan airspace.

The CS urged soldiers to dedicate more of their time in serving the country. “The role of a soldier is to be of service to Kenya and its people,” she said.

Amb. (Dr) Juma guaranteed KAF and KDF at large full support so that it can deliver on its core mandate. She also lauded the great work Kenya Air Force is doing in locust control.

On the other hand, she thanked KDF for the vital role played during the final send-off of the Second Commander-in -Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, the late Mzee Daniel Arap Moi. ‘‘We received a lot of commendations as KDF for professionalism display and arrangements that made the funeral a success,” said Dr. Juma.

Regarding the Corona Virus outbreak, the CS urged those present to observe public health guidelines and precautions. She also said that KDF has a role to play in sensitizing the public to avoid spread of the disease.

While giving his remarks, the Commander KAF Major General Francis Ogolla said that KAF is ready to defend the country’s airspace. He said that his troops are training in different parts of the world in an effort to match up and keep up with the best Forces in the world. He also appreciated the tremendous assistance that KAF continues to receive from the Defence Headquarters.

Present at the event, were Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Ibrahim M Mohamed, Base Commander Laikipia Air Base Brigadier John Omenda, Deputy Base Commander Moi Air Base Colonel Apolo Aloka, Senior KAF Officers, Officers and Service Members.
