UNITED KINGDOM DEFENCE ATTACHÉ VISITS THE KENYA NAVY

The United Kingdom Defense Attaché in Kenya, Brigadier Ronnie Westerman, paid a courtesy call to the Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Jimson Mutai, at the Kenya Navy Headquarters in Mtongwe on Tuesday, 11 May 2021.

During the meeting, the two leaders held talks geared towards fostering bilateral and military relationships as well as promoting working relations between the two nations, in efforts to cope with the evolving maritime security challenges.

The talks also explored future areas of collaboration between the two governments particularly in military training and operations aimed at strengthening strategic security relationship.

Brigadier Ronnie Westerman later visited the Kenya Naval Training College (KNTC) where she was briefed on the progress of a Fire Fighting and Multi-function Drill facility by the Commandant KNTC, Colonel Adan Mohamed.

The facility, still under construction, is a joint project between the British Peace Support Team and the Danish Peace and Stabilization Programme.

The Fire Fighting and Multi-function Drill facility will offer the Kenya Navy training capacity in line with the International Convention Standards of Training, certification and watch keeping for sailors and sea farers. It will be open for other maritime agencies to conduct their mandatory fire-fighting training before going to sea.
