KDF DISTRIBUTES WATER IN LAMU

In bid to stem water crisis occasioned by drought in Lamu county, a team of Kenya Defence Forces personnel drawn from 5 Kenya Rifles(5KR) has taken part in a water distribution exercise at Witu and Pandanguo.

The team distributed over 10,000 litres of fresh water to residents and public institutions and facilities in these areas.

The on-going exercise intends to supply residents of Lamu and surrounding areas with clean water to enable them fight starvation.

The exercise was conducted to supplement the Government effort in combating drought by ensuring availability of clean water for residents and livestock.

The soldiers also donated facemasks to locals and governmental officers stationed in the area.

The KDF’s intervention was applauded by the area leaders and elders who said that KDF troops have always stood with them during difficult times ‘‘I thank KDF for always being there for us in times of need’’ said Amina Shaban, a resident of Pandanguo.

Elders in these areas promised to work with security agencies in combating terrorism and radicalization.

KDF officials present promised to carry out routine water supplies in the villages, schools and dispensaries.
