Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Brigadier Yahya Abdi flagged off Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) Jasiri and KNS Shujaa on Exercise Jitegemee XXV training cruise for a comprehensive sea practical training for Junior Officers Under Training (JOUTS) at Kenya Navy Fleet, Mkunguni Jetty.
The training cruise exercise is a culmination of the theoretical class work of JOUTS at Kenya Navy Training College (KNTC) after the junior officers graduate from Kenya Military Academy (KMA). The extensive sea and in port training is geared towards self-reliance to enable the junior officers prepare for taking up the mantle of command and leadership in future naval tasks.
The Commander Kenya Navy Major General Jimson Mutai’s speech was read by the Deputy Commander Kenya Navy Brigadier Yahya Abdi whereby he urged the crew and JOUTS to conduct themselves with discipline while on the training cruise as well as be good ambassadors of Kenya Navy.
“The Kenya Navy Ships will be calling to Port Victoria in Seychelles for the exercise meant to equip you with skills and experiences both at sea and in port. This is meant to enable you improve in your skills acquired in class. This course is essential for every seaman as it’s a platform for learning individual responsibilities,” read the speech in bits.
Commander Kenya Navy Fleet Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa’s speech was read by the Senior Officer Afloat (SOA) 66 Squadron Lieutenant Colonel Safari Kalume where urged he the ship crew to impact knowledge to the trainees as it will sharpen their skills for their future working environment.
The Deputy Commander Brigadier Abdi also thanked the Chief of the Defence Forces for availing resources to conduct the exercise.
Present during the flag-off ceremony were Commander Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe Brigadier Peter Chelimo, Chief of operations Colonel Michael Atodonyang, Chief of Naval Medical Services Colonel Muithia Ngundo, among other Kenya Navy Officers and Service personnel.
