KENYA NAVY UPSCALES ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS

Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa led Kenya Navy service personnel in a tree planting drive at Dongo Kundu Bridge on 10 May 2024.

Brigadier Kiswaa commended Kenya Navy service personnel and all partners who participated in the tree planting exercise. He urged them to always follow up on the progress of the tree seedlings by nurturing them to maturity.

“I would like to thank Kenya Navy service personnel and all stakeholders who have partnered in this exercise. This is a good sign of collaborative efforts in mitigating climate change. After planting the seedlings, always follow through and nurture them to maturity,” he said.

Brigadier Kiswaa also noted that mangroves have strong and complex foot systems that protect coastal communities and landscapes from adverse weather conditions.

The tree planting exercise which saw a total of 13,147 mangrove and terrestial tree seedlings planted was in line with the National Tree Planting day and aimed at mitigating the devastating effects of climate change. Other tree seedlings were planted at Kenya Navy Base(KNB), Mtongwe, KNB Manda and Maritime Surveillance Squadron.

Partners during the tree planting exercise included Equity bank, Kenya Shipyards Limited and Green Shade Community Based organization.
