KDF OFFICER IMPRISONED FOR RECRUITMENT MALPRACTICES

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Officer on Thursday, 10th March 2022 was sentenced to two (2) years imprisonment by a Court Martial sitting at Kahawa Garrison after he was found guilty of engaging in recruitment malpractices.

The Court Martial, comprising of Senior Military Officers and presided over by Judge Advocate Diana Mochache, found Major Ben Kipkogei Chemjor guilty of three counts of conduct to the prejudice of good order and service discipline contrary to Section 121 of Kenya Defence Forces Act.

Major Chemjor was convicted for obtaining Ksh. 200,000 from Mr. Mohammed Shambaro by false pretence of influencing the recruitment of his son.

He was also convicted for obtaining Ksh. 150,000 from Mr. Emmanuel Nguah Mwandege by false pretence that he would influence the recruitment of his son.

Likewise, the officer was convicted for obtaining Ksh. 170,000 from Mrs. Celestine Achieng’ Odero as a recruitment inducement.

The Kenya Defence Forces wishes to remind the public that it’s recruitment drives are free and fair to all eligible candidates. Members of the public are warned against giving bribes to persons claiming to have influence over the KDF recruitment process.
