WO1 JOEL GATIBI MURAGE

ARMY SERGEANT MAJOR

Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Joel Murage was born in 1966. He was enlisted into the Kenya Army as a recruit on 28 April 1988 and undertook his basic military training at Recruits Training School. After completion of his training, he was posted to the 3rd Battalion, the Kenya Rifles.

During his career in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), WO1 Murage has held several appointments and conducted various assignments in a number of KDF Formations particularly in the Infantry Corps. In 2001, he was nominated to be part of the sixth Kenyan Battalion for peacekeeping duties in Sierra Leone.

He rose through the ranks until 01 September 2020 when he was promoted to the rank of WO1 where he was appointed Qualified Master Senior Instructor at the Defence Intelligence Academy. He has also served as the Regimental Sergeant Major at the Field Intelligence Battalion. Prior to his appointment as the Army Sergeant Major, WO1 Murage served as the Eastern Command Sergeant Major at Embakasi Garrison.

In recognition to his exemplary service, WO1 Murage has been honoured and decorated with the following medals: 1st 10 Great Years of Nyayo Era, 20 Great Years of Nyayo Era,  25th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Medal (Sierra Leone) and the Constitutional Medal.

WO1 Joel Murage is married and blessed with three children.
