PS EDUCATION LAUNCHES CBC CLASSROOMS AT EMBAKASI GARRISON

On 18th December 2024, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, officially inaugurated Grade 9 Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms at Embakasi Garrison Primary School in Nairobi.

This event is part of the Ministry of Education’s ongoing nationwide efforts to develop infrastructure that supports the smooth transition to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) following the shift from the 8-4-4 education system in 2017.

Before the inauguration, Dr. Kipsang paid a courtesy visit to Major General Luka Kutto, the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM), at the Command Headquarters, and later toured the newly constructed classrooms.
During the ceremony, Dr. Kipsang emphasized the government’s commitment to building the necessary infrastructure for the transformative education system.
“Today’s event is not just about the opening of a new academic facility; it is a celebration of our collective commitment to education. The government is working towards completing the construction of 11,000 classrooms nationwide before learning resumes in January 2025, to ensure our children receive quality education in a conducive environment,” he stated.

Major General Kutto highlighted the importance of stakeholder collaboration in ensuring access to quality education for all children, regardless of their background.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress, the engine of innovation, and the key to unlocking human potential. This project was made possible through joint efforts, and we thank everyone who contributed to its completion,” he remarked.

The classroom construction was a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Education, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), and parents.

The event was attended by senior KDF officers, Dr. Peter Kirika, the Nairobi Regional Director of Education, Mr. Johnson Nzioka, National Chairman of the Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA), service members, parents, and students.
