KENYA ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS LAUNCHES ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN THIKA

The Kenya Army Corps of Engineers, led by Combat Engineers Brigade Commander Brigadier Victor Mburu and Construction Engineers Brigade Commander Brigadier Joseph Mutua, has launched the construction of the Gatundu-Munyu road in Kamagambo, Thika Town Constituency, Kiambu County.

This initiative is part of the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects, aimed at giving back to the community in preparation for KDF Day, set to be observed on 14th October 2024.

The project will include murram layering, drainage installation, and paving of approximately 2.5 kilometers of road, stretching from the Thika-Garissa Highway to Mountain View Phase Two.
Community chairman, Mr. Elias Munyiri, expressed gratitude for KDF’s prompt response, noting the difficulties caused by the poor road conditions.

Brigadier Mburu acknowledged the community’s request for assistance and mentioned that after extensive consultations, the road works were approved.

Brigadier Mutua emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between the KDF and the Thika community, adding that the improved road would facilitate the movement of people and goods in all weather conditions, promoting the area’s economic growth.

The Commanders committed to ensuring the road’s timely and high-quality completion, also revealing plans for future projects in Makongeni and Kiganjo areas in Thika.

Key officials present at the launch included Deputy Brigade Commanders Col Andrew Kapkomoi and Col Maurice Wasomi, Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) representative Mr Stanley Kang’ethe, and local leadership representatives.
