2000 INDIGENOUS TREES CAMPAIGN

The Base Commander Wajir Air Base (WAB) Brigadier Stephen Sane Launched a Tree Planting Exercise at the Base.

The campaign conducted, in partnership with Kenya Forestry Services will continue until 2000 Mwarubaine (Azadirachta Indica) trees are planted and well nurtured.

During the launch, Brigadier Sane said, “as much as the area is an arid land and seldomly receive rainfall, we should make an effort to plant and nature trees in phases.”

The Base Commander noted that tree planting exercise was aimed at improving the tree cover within the Base as part of KDF’s Environmental Soldier Program established in the year 2003 to enable soldiers to be at the centre stage of tree planting initiative in the country and in line with the Presidential directive which aims to have 15 billion trees planted by 2032 for the Country to attain a 30% tree cover.

Also present during the event were Officers, and Service members; who managed to plant over 200 tree seedlings.
