The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), led by Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, recently took part in the 8th annual East African Campaign Remembrance Week held in Taita Taveta County.
This solemn event commemorates the sacrifices of the soldiers who served in the East African Campaign during World War I (1914–1918).
The remembrance ceremony, attended by the Indian High Commissioner to Kenya, Her Excellency Namgya C. Kampa, included wreath-laying at the Voi, Maktau, and Taveta War Cemeteries. In her address, High Commissioner Kampa praised the KDF for organizing the event and highlighted their commitment to fostering peace within the region and globally.
The event also saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Christopher Arnel, Commander Mariakani Garrison Brigadier Joseph Mokwena, Defense Attachés, KDF Officers and service members, officials from the Commonwealth Graves Commission, and families of World War I veterans.
This gathering honored the legacy and contributions of the heroes who fought in the East African Campaign, preserving their memory for future generations.
