MOD LAUNCHES PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR STAFF

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched a comprehensive Personal Financial Management Training program for its civilian staff, aimed at promoting financial literacy and fostering sound financial practices.

Organized under the leadership of Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru and facilitated by officials from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), the program aims to equip over 2,000 staff members with essential financial skills.
The inaugural session, held at the Defence Headquarters, was attended by civilian personnel. The training will be extended to various military installations where civilian staff are stationed. The initiative is part of broader efforts to promote employee wellness and financial independence.

In his opening remarks, Secretary of Administration (SA) Mr. Isaac Masinde, speaking on behalf of the Principal Secretary, highlighted the importance of financial discipline and managing personal finances wisely. He encouraged staff to seek multiple streams of income and to prioritize budgeting, living within their means, and meeting financial obligations on time to avoid unnecessary debt.
“Make wise financial decisions and start by living within your means. Meet your financial obligations on time to avoid plunging into unnecessary debts. Make sure you budget your money, which will enable you to identify which expenditures are essential and which are not,” said the SA.

The training covered key pillars of personal finance management, including Budgeting, Saving, Investing, Debt Management, and Retirement Planning. Participants were provided with strategies to overcome personal financial challenges and achieve their financial goals.

The skills acquired through this training are expected to help staff maintain financial discipline, ultimately enhancing their performance and service delivery.
The event was also attended by Deputy Accountant General Ms. Electina Wanyonyi, Director of Human Resource Management and Development Dr. Lilian Nzavi, and other senior officials from the Defence Headquarters.
