The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Christian Faithful on Wednesday, 14 February 2024 joined the Christian community around the world in observing Ash Wednesday, a day that marks the start of 40 days Lent Season.
Faithful at DHQ congregated at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Apostolic Administrator Lt Col (Fr) John Njue led General Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Service Members and their families in commemorating the start of the lent period.
Ash Wednesday is a celebration in the Christian traditions, which is a period in the liturgical calendar between Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday (Sundown).
This annual commemoration prepares the Christians through prayers, repentance, giving alms and self-denial. The event is linked to the passion of Christ and the celebration of His Resurrection. It is also in this liturgical period that new converts are baptized on Easter.
Apostolic Administrator Lt Col (Fr) Njue encouraged the faithful to observe the 40 days with utmost humility, repentance and care for one another as an expression of love and kindness for mankind with utmost divine mercy which the church calls on all of them to employ during the entire Lent season.
“This is a season for penance, reflection and fasting in order to prepare us for Christ’s resurrection and for our redemption,” said Lt Col (Fr) Njue.
