The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), under Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU), recently distributed water to residents of Chuwuw village, Silale Location in Tiaty East, Baringo County. This initiative aimed to alleviate the effects of the ongoing drought in the region, caused by prolonged dry spells and failed rains.
The water distribution was led by Major Francis Juma from the Chemoligot Multi-agency Command Centre. Beneficiaries included the Africa Inland Church (AIC) which is currently building a church in Silale, as well as Riongo Dispensary, Riongo Primary School, and locals at the Riongo trading center.
Mr. Collins Kases, the headteacher of Riongo Primary School, expressed his gratitude for the timely water supply. He mentioned that his school is set to host students from Naundo and Akwichatis Primary Schools for Junior Secondary School (JSS) exams.
“The water distribution is very timely, and we thank KDF for their generosity. We would have faced challenges in accommodating the number of children we are expecting for the exams,” he said.
Mr. Evans Tarus, a nurse at Riongo Dispensary, also acknowledged the assistance, explaining that the dispensary had been struggling with water shortages, making it difficult to clean and sterilize medical equipment.
“We use water sparingly and prioritize dire situations. We are very grateful for this gesture from KDF,” he noted.
Reverend Samson Samoei of the AIC Eldoret fellowship expressed appreciation for the support from the KDF, highlighting that acts of kindness reflect God’s care for His people.
“To care for the needs of the people is to honor God,” he said, adding that the water would be crucial in the construction of the new church. The church aims to provide a space for locals to fellowship and heal from past conflicts, fostering better relations within the community.
Through such initiatives, the KDF continues to support local communities, demonstrating their commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and fostering peace.
