JUNIOR OFFICERS GRADUATE

The Deputy Commander of the Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa, presided over the graduation ceremony of the Junior Officers’ Course – Executive (JOC X) Class 17/24 on October 23, 2024, at the Kenya Navy Training College.

The course aimed to equip junior officers with essential maritime knowledge and skills, preparing them for operational and staff duties within the naval fleet and onshore establishments. It also focused on developing officers with the competence and insights needed to navigate the complexities of modern maritime operations.

Brigadier Kiswaa, in his speech, expressed his satisfaction at seeing the officers graduate after completing a rigorous 28-week training. He emphasized the importance of building on the skills and knowledge acquired from diverse sources, encouraging the officers to leverage the experiences of others to establish themselves as leaders in the evolving maritime sector.

“I am pleased that you had the opportunity to participate in sea training and engage with various maritime institutes in Mombasa. These experiences are not mere exercises but investments in your career development,” said Brigadier Kiswaa.

He further urged the officers to seek and make the most of training opportunities throughout their careers, fostering a thirst for knowledge to become leaders who contribute positively to the Kenya Navy and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on both national and international levels.

“As divisional officers, you must recognize the importance of self-improvement and foresight. You are not just future commanding officers but architects shaping the trajectory of the Kenya Navy. Continuous learning and preparation are the cornerstones of leadership and the responsibilities that lie ahead,” he added.

The Commandant of the Kenya Navy Training College, Colonel Benson Karuimbo, encouraged the graduates to make a positive impact when they return to their respective units, reciprocating the time and resources invested in their training.

“You are the ambassadors of excellence, entrusted with upholding the values instilled during your training. Let us continue to support the college whenever called upon,” said Colonel Karuimbo.

The Junior Officers’ Course – Executive is a crucial stage in an officer’s career progression, enabling them to contribute to Kenya’s maritime defense and enhance the country’s role in regional and global maritime security.
