The Chief of Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi today, 17th March 2023 presided over the launch of the first Kenya Defence Forces Journal at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in Nairobi.
This inaugural KDF Journal, Themed “Education and Training as Enablers in Sharpening the Arrow Head for Mission Readiness”, aims at providing a space for the generation of knowledge, dialogue, critique, debate, and collaboration between a community of professionals, practitioners and scholars within the KDF space, MOD personnel and partners.
The Journal highlights the need of preparing potential military leaders as well as building capacity for those serving by enhancing their ability to internalise the demands in a multi-dimensional combat and peace operations.
It also offers a platform to share knowledge derived from lived experiences by KDF personnel, focusing exclusively on the need to hone military skills in order to produce an arrowhead that pierces nationally and across the borders.
While giving his remarks General Robert Kibochi noted that science and technology investment will enable KDF to counter all kinds of threats such as terrorism that call for intelligence capabilities necessary in order to defeat any advantages that the adversary may seek.
“Our defence science and technology investment will enable us to counter military threats and also other special threats such as terrorism that cannot be met through conventional war fighting and they underpin the intelligence capabilities necessary to assess the dangers our nation faces in order to overcome any advantages that adversaries may seek.”
General Kibochi underscored the importance of education and training, thus urged KDF personnel to adapt to the emerging trends by equipping themselves with appropriate knowledge, skills and attitudes across the tactical, operational and strategic landscape. This must be done in line with capability enhancement through modern training which KDF strives for in order to conform with the current emerging complexity in the security environment.He also encouraged all soldiers to upscale their intellectual capability at an individual level.
In his remarks, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Operations Doctrine and Training (ACDF OPD&T) Major General Fredrick Leuria acknowledged the unwavering support by his team which saw them publish 16 articles out of the 274 articles written by various experts within KDF
The CDF lauded the Members of the Editorial Committee led by Chief of Research, Doctrine, Training and Evaluation (RD & TE) Brigadier Stephen Huria for making the dream of the First Volume of KDF Journal become a reality. He also encouraged all military personnel to be intentional in reading the journal so as to better future publications.
