Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF) Major General John Omenda on 8th March 2023 precided over the annual Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) sports and Cultural day at the Moi Air Base (MAB), Nairobi.
The one-day event saw students and staff compete in various sporting activities including athletics, football, volleyball, tag of War, cross country as well as performing traditional dances depicting various Kenyan cultures.
The College puts emphasis on academics, sporting and cultural activities which hold an integral part of human success. Through this, each individual perfects leadership skills, gain confidence, improves on discipline, practice effective time management, preservation of good health, and improves on espirit-de corps and teamwork.
These put together improves the holistic capabilities of the students and staff and the end results is the excellence overall College performance that has been experienced in the college for the last four academic KNEC examination series.
During the event, School of Information Technology for Defence Systems (SITDS) emerged the overall winners followed by School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (SEEE) and in third place was the College Admin Wing (CAW).
Speaking during the event, Maj Gen Omenda commended the school for its excellent academic performance and urged them to keep up the good work and emulate the same when it comes to physical fitness.
“The lessons learnt from these activities make the transition after College to a career within KDF in each profession and coexistence in a family much easier,” he added.
The Commander KAF concluded by stating that work without play makes Jack a dull boy.
In his remarks, DEFTEC Principal Brigadier Mohamed Ali expressed his gratitude to the Commander KAF, that through his guidance the College has had a good performance in the recent years.
Also present during the event were the College Deputy Principal Colonel (Dr.) John Kisilu, Deputy Base Commander MAB Colonel Herbert Wafula, KAF Senior Officers, Officers, Service Members and Corporate sponsors.
