Defence Principal Secretary Dr. Patrick Mariru, together with India’s Defence Secretary His Excellency Giridhar Aramane, laid the foundation stone for a new Radiology Complex at The Kenya Navy Hospital (TKNH) at Navy Headquarters in Mtongwe, Mombasa County. They were welcomed by Deputy Navy Commander Brigadier John Kiswaa.

This facility, a joint venture between the Governments of Kenya and India, will offer comprehensive medical services to Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel and their dependents, reducing the need to travel to Defence Forces Memorial Hospital for treatment.

During the ceremony, Dr. Mariru expressed gratitude to India for its ongoing support in enhancing KDF’s medical capacity. He highlighted the Ministry of Defence’s dedication to providing quality healthcare, ensuring military personnel can perform their duties effectively.

“This project will strengthen the Kenya Navy’s healthcare capacity, ensuring that our service members and their families have access to high-quality healthcare,” he said.

Dr. Mariru also emphasized the strong, long-standing defence cooperation between Kenya and India, which has evolved over the years in areas such as training, capacity building, and infrastructure. He noted that the Radiology Complex reflects the maturity of this relationship and expressed hope for further collaboration in the future.

H.E. Aramane echoed these sentiments, noting the long-standing friendship between Kenya and India, strengthened by mutual interests across the Indian Ocean.

“This project is a symbol of the joint efforts of KDF and MOD India and reflects India’s commitment to help enhance healthcare infrastructure for our military brothers and sisters in Kenya. Good health is indeed the foundation of a good life, and through such partnerships, both Kenya and India can strive to ensure that everyone has access to the healthcare they deserve,” he added.
